As the end of October approaches, we are greeted with the first early season snow. Even down at village level in Saas Fee we are enjoying a significant amount of snow at the moment and it is set to continue throughout next week.

The autumn is always a special time in the Alps, even more so when we feel the drop in temperatures and get to witness Mothers Nature's greatest show of the trees turning from green to yellows, reds and browns and now white. Dressed in their winter finery of fresh, crisp snow, it truly is a magical sight.

Even though we have been experiencing fantastic winter conditions up on the glacier for a while now, it is always an exciting time to receive the first proper early season snow. With a big storm front looking like it will be around for the next week or so, it will set the fast approaching winter up perfectly. Natural snow in October will ensure a great base for the winter season, and combined with the extensive snow making system we have in Saas Fee, its looking like we will have another great start to the season. After a few lacklustre season starts in previous years, a big season opener is always welcome!

With early season snow also comes more skiable terrain, Saas Fee regularly has 1000m of vertical drop in November and with the current storm dropping the goods, it looks like this trend is set to continue. After the epic snowfall levels of last winter, anything less than a cracking start to this season could be a little disappointing. Luckily, it looks like that will not be the case!

After one of the hottest summers on record, it feels amazing to see the snow making a welcome return to the Alps and with it the shift in peoples thoughts and plans to winter. With that in mind, it could be time to get in touch and book your favourite Ski Zenit instructor to ensure you do not miss out!
