Intro to
off-piste skiing in Saas-Fee
Your first steps into ungroomed snow. Intro to Off-Piste teaches you how to ski powder and variable snow, and how to read the mountain, with an expert instructor on terrain close to the marked runs.
From the piste to the powder: the technique and mountain awareness to enjoy fresh snow.
Intro to Off-Piste
Your first tracks in fresh snow
Skiing powder is one of the best feelings in the mountains, but it needs a different technique. In this off-piste ski lesson in Saas-Fee, your instructor shows you how to stay balanced in deeper snow, how to keep both skis working together and how to ski crud and wind-affected snow without fighting it.
We stay on terrain close to the marked runs, chosen by your instructor for the conditions of the day. Along the way you learn the basics of mountain awareness: reading the avalanche bulletin, understanding the terrain and why good decisions matter as much as good technique.
When you are ready for bigger lines in the backcountry, our freeride team at Le Beau Ski runs guided freeride days. Find out more at freerideguiding.ch.

Who is Intro to Off-Piste
for?
This workshop is for strong intermediate and advanced skiers who ski red and black runs confidently and want to explore beyond the groomed slopes. It is ideal if you have tried powder and found it tiring, or if you want to prepare for a freeride trip. You do not need your own safety equipment for this introduction, as we stay close to the pistes, but your instructor will explain what you would need for the backcountry.
What will you work on
in Intro to Off-Piste?
Powder technique: a balanced, centred stance, even weight on both skis and a smooth rhythm that keeps you floating.
Variable snow: tactics for crud, wind-packed and heavy snow, so you can ski whatever the mountain gives you.
Mountain awareness: the avalanche bulletin, terrain and snow conditions, and the questions to ask before you leave the piste.

How it works
timing, group size and meeting point

Timing
A 2.5-hour session, with the option to extend. Mornings after fresh snowfall are best.
The session always depends on conditions. If the snow or the avalanche risk is not right, your instructor adapts the session on the piste or suggests another day.
Stay flexible: the best off-piste days are often the day after a storm.

Group size
Private for one person, or up to five people with a similar level. Prices are shown in our booking system.
Smaller groups mean more time in the good snow.
Helmets are compulsory for under 16s.
Wider all-mountain or freeride skis make learning in powder much easier.

Meeting point
Confirmed when you book, depending on conditions.
You need a valid lift pass for the session.
Look for our Bespoke Snowsports sign and instructors in all-black uniforms.
Let us know about your off-piste experience when you book.
